Weekly Star Atlas Newsletter #189

Paizul Arena [final]

Welcome to our 189th newsletter on Star Atlas! This weekly newsletter, published by Aephia Industries, focuses entirely on the development of this ambitious game. Here, we attempt to aggregate all the newsworthy tidbits revealed, primarily by the team, throughout the past week.

The big reveal is here—last week’s announcement of an announcement has now turned into the launch of a full-fledged summer campaign. The Star Atlas team officially unveiled Star Atlas Summer, a month-long stretch packed with product launches, community events, and cinematic reveals. At the heart of it are three Town Halls, with the first set for July 30th.

That day will also bring the release of the long-anticipated UE5 Summer patch, alongside the public debut of the first cinematic video in a new trilogy.

It’s shaping up to be a busy and exciting season! Let’s dive in!

Star Atlas Summer

Last week, the biggest news was an announcement of an announcement. This week, as expected, we got the actual announcement.

The team is hosting three Town Halls, each tied to a product release, spaced out over the next month—on July 30th, August 13th, and August 27th.

The first, taking place during Community Week, was previously teased as the “Secret Event.” That mystery is now solved: it’s a Town Hall and a product launch.

What’s launching? The long-awaited UE5 Summer patch! A release the team had hinted might land in July, and they’ve just made it, right at the tail end. Among other highlights, this patch will introduce the fully finished Paizul Arena (see sneak peek below), persistent servers for gunplay matches, and on-chain progression!

Together with Community Week and the run of Town Halls, this full campaign is being promoted as Star Atlas Summer.

Star Atlas Cinematic

Alongside the UE5 Summer patch announcement, the team revealed that a 3-minute cinematic video will premiere on July 30th. This marks the official release of Part 1 of the cinematic trilogy first shown at last year’s Impact Summit. Until now, it hadn’t been shared through any official channels.

While many community members have likely seen a version of it, this will be its first wide release.

It’s not clear when the next two parts will be published, but the team let us know that it won’t be during the Summer event. As part of the announcement, the team teased the first minute of the cinematic on X as a teaser.

  • Tuesday (July 29th) — COPA
  • Wednesday (July 30th) — Town Hall & UE5 Summer Patch release
  • Thursday (July 31st) — Team vs Community shooter (prizes)
  • Friday (August 1st) — Joni awards
  • Saturday (August 2nd) — Community Carnival Raffle

Sneak Peeks

This week, we have two weapons and a first sneak peek of the 100% finished Paizul Arena, which will be released on July 30th alongside the UE5 Summer patch.

Weekly Star Atlas Newsletter #246

Last week was dominated by SAGE C4 Phase 3. While the team missed its hoped-for end-of-week release window, we got the clearest picture yet of what the next phase will actually look like: a new starter bundle, much tighter economic balancing, a full fleet recovery and medallion system, and a considerably more capable Nemesis Engine. Beyond C4, we got updates on the road to z.ink mainnet, the return of UE5 multiplayer, and the ongoing DAO Council election.

Weekly Star Atlas Newsletter #245

Last week brought the clearest picture yet of how the final SAGE C4 PTR phases should lead into mainnet. Phase 3 appears to be getting close, Phase 4 will serve as the final launch rehearsal, and we now have the first concrete ATLAS cost for Council Rank research. Beyond C4, the UE5 upgrade to Unreal Engine 5.8 is underway, and voting has opened for the fourth DAO Council term; however, with only three candidates for five seats, the outcome is already settled.

Weekly Star Atlas Newsletter #244

Last week shed more light on how SAGE C4 is expected to evolve through its next phases. Phase 3 will put progression and onboarding front and center with a smaller starter package and single-player campaign, while wallet-based onboarding with players’ own assets is expected to return later. Phase 3 itself will take a little longer than initially hoped, however. Beyond C4, new z.ink developer tools are in the works, and our own Cataclysm: Battle for Iris has finally entered public beta!
